Osteria del Carcere in San Gimignano is a fantastic Italian osteria that offers a delightful selection of typical Italian dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience as the food was outstanding. From the delectable antipasti to the delightful dolce, every dish was a culinary delight. Had a late dinner here. Enjoyed our meal and the ambience of the place. The staff were very friendly. I had the turkey which was an interesting combination with orange that I would have never thought off. The Desserts are a must-have. We could not decide which one to get so we got the sampler.

After a half-day of wandering about San Gimignano, I was starving, but disinclined to settle for something mediocre. I eyeballed several restaurants, and decided the Osteria del Carcere looked most promising. I waited outside for the 15 or so minutes before it opened, and was rewarded with an excellent traditional Tuscan meal served with warmth and grace by the proprietor (who also served as my expert sommelier the equal of any in any great restaurant anywhere). From beginning to end, an unusually pleasant and memorable meal accompanied by excellent wine. Its location slightly away from "the madding crowd's ignoble strife" is a plus.

Lovely little osteria just next to the cisterne. Great selection of bruschetta and crostoni. Seem to have a great selection of soups as well, but we did not try those. Really charming place for a little lunch.

Great little restaurant just off the main square. The food was really well cooked and presented. Only a few tables outside but plenty of space inside.

Service was a little slow as it's a family business with no extra wait staff. Prices a little on the expensive side but produce is excellent! The orange salad was light and refreshing, the soups hearty but not heavy, and the pork loin was well cooked with an abundance of rosemary aroma. Well worth it.

We stopped for lunch and got friendly service despite we came in close to the closing time. Food is amazing taste wise and beautiful presentation. Cherry on the top, they play Italian opera discreetly in the background. Would recommend!

Doesn't look like much from outside but the food is genuinely good. A welcome change from all of the other "basic spaghetti" meals served in most touristic places. Unique flavors, very original dishes.
